As we have all learned from this past year, plans change! But, I want to keep you updated with what we are working on in the classroom. I will update this post with what we will be doing for the upcoming month! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me by email!

September:
We will start the year with some activities so I can get to know you and vice versa. Additionally, we will go over procedures and protocols for our classroom!
In the following weeks, we are going to be doing some grammar work and dive into our Narrative Writing Unit. This is a great unit to start the year with to get you all back into the swing of things!
You will also be given plenty of time for reading and discovering new books.
October:
We will continue to work through our Narrative Writing Unit! By the end of the month students should have a completed story, ready for publication!
Once that unit has been completed, we will move into skills of inferencing, summarizing, and identifying theme.
Students have started to fill out Google Forms about their independent reading books. Don't forget to be reading for 20-minutes a night!
November/December:
We finished up our Narrative Writing Unit and moved on to our Evidence-Based Essay! We read the short story "Flowers for Algernon" and worked on crafting a claim with supporting evidence!
We also began our Book Bento Reading Project with our independent reading books!
January/February:
Welcome back from break and happy 2022! We finished up our Book Bento Reading Project and started working on our Demo Project! Students worked on creating a visual presentation and essay to present to the class.
The presentations were AMAZING! I am so impressed with the work the students have put in!
March:
Oh boy, spring is in the air! We worked on a mini-inference unit, where students took an assessment showing their skills! As we enter into our last trimester of middle school, we are currently reading Freak the Mighty! We will cover many standards within this unit that will culminate in a group project!
There will also be a career fair this month and students are participating in the March Madness Reading Challenge! Make sure you read 20-minutes a night!
